The 2012 Gainsboroughs Art Awards and Exhibition has again proved a major success with more than 350 artists and VIP’s, including Gold Coast Mayor, Tom Tate attending the awards ceremony on Friday night.

The awards were launched in 2011 by national publicly listed real estate and development company Mirvac in an effort to integrate the Gainsborough Greens residential development with the local community and create more awareness of the arts community on the Gold Coast. The overall winner and recipient of $10 000 was Queensland artist, Scott Wilmot Bennett with his exceptional work entitled Electric Light. Highly commended went to artists Filthy the Bear and Louise Blood who each took home $2000 with the People’s Choice Award to be announced after the end of the exhibition which runs until Sunday, August 26.

“I’m just so excited,” said winner, Mr Wilmot Bennett. ”In fact, I’m more excited for the people that support me – the people who have given me places to live and bought my work because without these people, I would never have been able to pursue my art full-time and I wouldn’t be where I am today.

The exhibition is open to the public until Sunday, August 26 with 100 artworks on display and many available to purchase.  Visit Mirvac’s website for more information.
